Violet Hills

Violet Hills ranges from undulating to very steep country and is on the original "Old Bathurst Road" which was the first road across the Blue Mountains to the Bathurst Plains, constructed by convicts in 1815. Due to the steep terrain and difficult creek and river crossings it ceased being the main road  within 10-15 years.

The climate is usually mild with harsh, cold winters, a time when pasture growth ceases. The rainfall ranges between 800 and 900 mm. In the winter time the country can become very boggy. Snowfalls occur  mainly in late winter and spring, but can occur anytime of the year. We have had snow falls on Christmas day, twice in the time we have owned Violet Hills.
